David
Manuel
In the
past 35 years, David Manuel has written 37 books, among them
two ongoing best-sellers, The Light and the
Glory
(co-authored with Peter Marshall), and Medjugorje: the
Message (in collaboration with Wayne Weible). In 1999 he
started the Faith Abbey Mystery series, published in hardcover
by Paraclete Press and in paperback by Time-Warner. Last fall
he finished The Last
Awakening: A Call to Repentance, a firsthand account of
what God is doing right now in America, and what
we must do, if we would have Him heal our land. His most
recent book has just been published, a little book entitled Once Upon a Prayer: How to
Hear God in your Heart..
At Yale, Mr. Manuel wrote extensively
for the Yale Literary Magazine and always dreamed of
becoming a writer. But first he would serve four years in
the Naval Air Force, as a CIC officer, logging 2,600 hours
flight time on radar barrier patrols out of Newfoundland and Iceland. Returning
to civilian life, he became a copywriter at Doubleday, eventually becoming their
youngest trade editor.
In 1970 following a religious conversion, he left
Doubleday to head up the book division of Logos International
for two years – until he mustered the courage to try the other
side of the editor's desk. His first assignment: to
ghost-write the sequel to Merlin Carothers’ Prison to Praise – in
ten days.
Just when he was looking forward to the sunset chapters
of his life watching the sun set over Cape Cod Bay, God has
given him a new assignment: to be an evangelist for prayer. He
now travels around the country leading listening-to-God
workshops. [He can be contacted at: editor@hearinghim.com] But each summer finds him leading
a
at
Gordon Conwell Seminary Campus, where he encourages other
would-be authors to believe the dream and persevere.
